It was a dark period of my life, when all things looked so confusing, and the next phase of life wasn’t certain. Life is so unexplainable. A teenager from a noble background turned out to be a street gang boy.
Funny enough the street wasn’t a pleasant place to be as lot of atrocities are been committed right there day and night.
So ask me, why did I longed for the street? it was a feeling I couldn’t explain, neither could I help myself out it.
My parents never loved the fact that I was always on the street neither did my siblings, but I found myself always on the street getting involved in one trouble or the other which earned me a nickname, ‘little devil’.
I could remember a fight I had with a conductor one of those times, which led to my being arrested by the police and locked up in the cell. It was really a pathetic one as it broke the camel’s back, it actually teared the family apart, with the threat from my father that he would disown me as his son.
I was too much of a trouble, thereby everyone called me trouble in the environment where I lived. I mingled with the drug addicts and the most notorious guys in the area where I grew up. I was known as an evil person to the extent that when I am not involved in a crime, I will be mentioned as being amongst the perpetrators of crime because they believed I must be there.
Come to think of it, what would have been my gain if during one of those days I had been killed?. It would have been an eternal doom (Mark 8:34.)
(Mark 8:34)
But one thing about God is that HE is a Master planner as well as the Architect of our lives. In the midst of the storm, following my father’s threat, a friend’s mother invited me and my other friends for a Youth Summer Camp meeting organized by the Foursquare Gospel Church, Ajebo, Nigeria
The first day of the meeting I was busy doing my own stuff on the camp, down to the third day but on the fourth day during the evening service, while gisting with my friends which was our normal routine from the first day at the camp, a young friend walked up to me and said “can we separate ourselves” I separated myself and moved far away in the dark. Then I heard the preacher say “God is looking for a Moses to send” every eye closed, there was an unusual silence and immediately I closed my eyes, a light shown on me and I heard a voice saying “What is your gain from all of the bad things you have done”. Then I saw a hand with a shovel, digging out all of the bad things I had ever done and as the hand dug, the digger continuously asked the question “What is your Gain”? I broke down and burst into tears seeing all those things I ever did which no one knew about opened up right before my very eyes.
The preachers voice again “Are you the Moses the Lord is looking for?” and he said “Come and give your life to the Lord Jesus Christ who died to save you”.
I stepped out with so much convictions of my sins and I surrendered it all to the Saviour who loves me and gave his life for me, and immediately the burden of my sins were taken away and I received healing in my heart, a sweet experience that I can never forget. This happened on August 15, 1982.
After this beautiful experience at the camp, on getting back home, I started preaching the Good News of what Christ has done and people who saw me doing this started rejoicing and they all gathered at my father’s house, exactly what the Bible said about when a soul turns his heart to God that there is joy in heaven. Luke 15:7
I am sharing the testimony of my conversion for everyone who is in a state of despair to let you know that there is a place in God for you. All you need do is to acknowledge that you are a sinner, and that you need the Saviour. Separate yourself from all sinful acts as you open your heart to receive Him. Romans: 10:9-10,13, “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth, the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God had raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”.
If you have done this, say this short prayer.
Lord Jesus, I open my heart to you, come and be my Lord and Saviour forgive all my sins and make me your child. Amen.
If you have surrendered your life to Christ, kindly reach out to us on the following numbers as we would love to share in your Joy.
